This card gives information about setting up a question/answer "sentence/text" format.
1. Add a text object to your card to type the question and answer on.
2. Make an invisible button to go over each answer choice.
3. Add a sound to the invisible button for each answer choice indicating correct or incorrect.
4. Create a new card (go to Edit>Ready-made card> Same Background).

| This card gives the procedure to adding sound to an invisible button. Put the invisible button over the text for the answer choice (the sentence or word). |

1. Double-click on the invisible button.
Go to Objects>Add a Button.
Choose button type 5 for an invisible button
2. Click on Actions.
3. Click on PLAY A SOUND
4. Select a sound file for correct or incorrect.
5. Click OK on Digital Sound Deck box.
6. Click OK to get out of the Actions box.

This card goes over information about using a Button as an answer choice.
Add sound to the button directly. No invisible button is needed.
Click on the answer choices to hear the sound added. See if you can choose the correct answer for the question. |

When you click on the TIP button, you will see this card.
This card gives the procedure for adding sound to the button directly. To add the button, go to Objects>Add a Button. Make your selection on the type of button (1-4). Type in the answer choice in the button name. Make sure you check the Show Name box. |
To add sound:
1. Double-click on the button.
2. Click on Actions
3. Click on Play a Sound
4. Select the sound to indicate correct or incorrect.
5. Click OK on Digital Sound Deck box.
6. Click OK to get out of Actions box. |

| Card 5 begins the practice section. On this card you will this card you will: |
Add an invisible button over each answer choice for question 2. |
Add the sound directly to the button choices for answer 3. |
| General Procedure for adding sound to an answer choice: |
| Go to Objects> Add a Button. Pick button type # 5 for an invisible button for question 2 answer choices. Select from 1-4 for question 3 answer choices |
- Click ok on the Button Appearance box. You will see the button outline on the card in dashed lines.
- Click off of the button somewhere on the card. The Actions box will appear.
- (OR you can double-click on the button and go to Actions)
- Now click on Play a Sound.
- Choose a sound file from the Digital Audio Deck sample files. If you want a different sound, click on Disk Library and go to the Sounds folder.
- You can browse elsewhere on your computer to add a sound file you made yourself. If you use the Windows Sound Recorder to record a sound file, you can always save that file in the HyperStudio Media Library Sounds folder.

| Add Sound to these Answer Choices. |

This card is a repeat of card 4, but this time you will add sound to the answer choices. You can choose from a phrase that is spoken like "sorry" or just a sound like a buzzer for an incorrect sound. A phrase like "Oh Yeah!" or a sound like "ding" can be used for a correct answer.
Now YOU add a sound file to the answer choices. Follow the directions above this card to add the sound to each answer choices provided on the card.

Procedure:
1. Click on each answer choice to add sound. Answer choices in question 2 use an invisible button that is already in place, just add the sound.
2. Do the same for the buttons for question 2. Click on the button to add the sound. |

| Now, practice the entire procedure. |

On this card you will go through the entire procedure from putting in the text box, typing in the quiz question (one per text box- don't forget the rule about how many questions per card), adding an invisible button over the text box, and adding the sound for the answer choice.
Always test the actions added after you have completed it to make sure it is right.

Procedure:
1.Add a Text Object to type your question and answer choices on.
2. Go to Objects>Add a Button to add a invisible button. Add a button for each answer choice you create in text/sentence for. You will add the button, NEXT add the sound for that button. THEN drag the button over the sentence for the answer choice.
3. Repeat the procedure for EACH ANSWER CHOICE.
4. Always go back and test the sounds you added to the answer choices. Use the Browse tool on the Tool palette to test the sounds. Go back to the Arrow tool to work on your stack. |
Card 7 Now practice adding buttons as answer choices. |

The same procedure applies to add sound to a button. 1.You will still need to add a text object to type your question. 2. Then go to Objects>Add a Button to use for each answer choice.Type in the word or words (you are limited to how many words you can type for a button name-which in this case is your answer choice. 3. Add Sound to the answer choice.
Don't forget to preview how a sound file sounds.. you must select the sound file from the folder and click ok. THEN you can click the PLAY button on the Digital Audio Deck. |
Procedure to add sound to the button:
1. After you add the button, go to Actions.
2. Play a Sound
3. Pick a sound file
4. Click OK when you have selected the sound file you want. |

Now you need to practice adding buttons for navigation through your quiz.
A quiz question is provided for you. This button only goes to the next question. This card only provides forward navigation for a quiz.

Procedure:
1. Double-Click on the YELLOW button.
2. Click on Actions from the Button Appearance box.
3. Click GO TO ANOTHER CARD under Places to Go.
4. Click on the forward arrow to find CARD 9.
5. Select your button transition you want to occur when this button is clicked.
6. Select a transition type and speed of transition.
7. Click Try It to see if you like that transition. Then click OK.
8. Test out your button. It should go to card 9, but there is blue arrow button provided that will take you to the next card.

On this card you can practice adding navigation going forward to the next card AND back to the previous card to get experience navigating both directions in a quiz.
Click on the back button first to navigate back to CARD 8.
Click on the forward button to navigate to CARD 10.

| Use this procedure to add navigation to each button: |
1. Double-click on the button
2. Click on Actions from the Button Appearance box.
3. Click GO TO ANOTHER CARD under Places to Go.
4. Click on the forward arrow to find CARD 9.
5. Select your button transition you want to occur when this button is clicked.
6. Select a transition type and speed of transition. Click Try It to see if you like that transition. Then click OK. |

You have completed the practice session for making a quiz using HyperStudio.
Be sure to save your stack in the practice stack folder before you click on the "Finish" button as this will close out your stack. |

Go to the Quizzes page and select the Unit 4 Quiz. Then use the side menu to navigate to Unit 4> Lesson 3 to complete the tutorial. |
