| Let's Practice: Part 1 Adding a Text Object |

| Save this practice stack to your computer hard drive. To open the stack IN HyperStudio, be sure to pick HyperStudio as the program to open the stack, using Open With... Or open HyperStudio and go to OPEN AN EXISTING STACK- Adding Hyperlinks. |

Practice Session Directions: |
Open the practice stack, Adding a Text Object.
Click Begin to start the practice session. |
| 1. Add a text object to the card. |

| Go to Object>Add a Text Object |
 |
| You will see a box with red moving dashes, called "marching ants". When the text object/box is selected you may move the object around on the card at this point, but to complete inserting the text object you must click somewhere on the card so that the Text Appearance box will appear. |

The Text Appearance box will allow you to:
select the text color
color of the background of the text object
make the text object scrollable
add a scroll bar
draw a frame for the text object. |

| If you clicked on the card and the Text Appearance box appeared, you have added the text object. |
| Now practice moving the text object around on the card. |
| Click on the text object. You will see a 4-way arrow. Hold down the mouse button on the text object and move the object around. |
| Now resize the text object. Select the text object, move the 4-way arrow over the red dashed lines until you see a 2-way arrow. Hold down the mouse button and drag the line until you move the line in/out or up/down to resize the box. |
| Click Next to continue. |
2. Edit your text object.
Select the Arrow tool from the Tools Palette (make sure you have your Tools palette detached so you can Double-click on the text object
Double-click on the text object to make the Text Appearance box appear. Now you are ready to edit your text object. |

| When you insert a text object the following options will be checked. |

| Try these options: |
Select "Draw scroll bar and scrollable (you can make the text scrollable without a scroll bar where you can scroll the text down using the mouse)

Uncheck the box to take away the frame around the text object. To put the frame back, re-check the box for Draw Frame.

Now select a text color and a background color for the text object (box).
Make sure the background color for the text object does not make it where you cannot see the text (dark background color with lighter text color or light background color with dark text color). |

| 3. Editing the text in the text object. |

| Double-click on the text white text object. Then click on the STYLE button at the left-hand side at the bottom of the Text Appearance box. |

| This will bring up the Text Style box. |
 |
| Try these options: |
| Select a different font style from the list of fonts. |
| Change the text size (ranges from 8-72) |
| You can change the text color or background color for the text object on the Text Style box just like you can on the Text Appearance box. |
| When you change the alignment (Left, Right, or Centered), it will change all the text in that text object. |
Practice selecting the different alignments.
You can see what the text object will look like in the preview box on the top-right hand side of the box where you are editing the text style or appearance. |

| 4. Editing text using the Format Menu. |

| To edit using the Format Menu, you must highlight the text you want to change. Then select the option you need. |

Select the Text tool on the Tools palette.You will see a blinking cursor that will allow you to start typing at that point; highlight the text you need to change.
Click inside the text object and drag over the text. Then go to Format on the main menubar and select the option you need. |

In the white text box you will change the following text:
Change the...font style
Change the ...text size
Change the...text color |

| Procedure: |
Click on the phrase "Change the..font size" in the text box on the card.
Go to Format on the Main Menubar and go to Text Size. Select a size font (like 10 or 16). |
Now highlight the phrase "Change the ...font style". Go to Format>Recent fonts or HyperStudio fonts and pick a different font style. |
Now try going to Format>Text Style. This will make the Text Style box appear where you can select from a larger list of different types of fonts. Select one of the fonts from the list. |

Highlight "Change the text color". Go to Format>Set Text Color. This will bring up a color box.
Select a color to change the text phrase to and click OK. |

That completes the practice session for Adding a Text Object. Be sure to save your practice stack using a slightly different name. Try to save all the practice stacks in the same folder (like "Practice Stacks").
