| Save this practice stack to your computer hard drive. To open the stack IN HyperStudio, be sure to pick HyperStudio as the program to open the stack, using Open With... Or open HyperStudio and go to OPEN AN EXISTING STACK- Adding Hyperlinks. |

This practice session will go over the different ways to use hyperlinks in a stack. You can hyperlink: |
- To an Internet address using a URL
- To another card in the stack
- To another stack

| Click Begin to start the practice session. |

1. Hyperlink Using a URL |
First, you will add a hyperlink to a URL. The text can be a phrase that represents the purpose of the URL as with Famous Mississippians. This link will take the user to more information about various famous Mississippians in different categories (authors, musicians, athletes)
|
 HIghlight the bolded text-- "Famous Mississippians".

| The Tip will take you to a reminder of the procedure to adding a hyperlink. |

| TIP: Before you highlight the bolded text, copy the URL in blue on the card using Ctrl>C. When you get to the Go to URL box, you will paste the copied URL by holding the Ctrl key and clicking V. |
Go to Objects>Hyperlink Text.
You will see the Hypertext Links box. The text you highlighted will be in the box at the bottom. After you click on "Add Link", the text you highlighted will be italicized in the box at the top |

Click on Add Link
This text will stay italicized until you add actions to the text. You do this by clicking on "Actions".
When the Actions box appears, select Go to URL under Things to Do. This will bring up the Go to URL box. |

Paste the URL:
You will paste the URL you copied inside the Go to URL box
(hold Ctrl and click on the V key to paste).
When you get back to the Actions box, you will click DONE. Go to the next card. |

2. Hyperlink to a Key Word or Phrase |
| On this card, you will practice highlighting a key word that represents a category of a famous Mississippian and the URL itself to represent the hyperlink. |

| Directions: |
- Number 1. Highlight the http:// address and use it as the hyperlink--http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brett_Favre.
- Go to Objects>Hyperlink Text. Click Add Link. Click Actions. Select Go to URL.
- Paste the URL into the Go to URL box.
- Number 2. Highlight the bolded key word- Musicians. Copy/paste this URL-- http://www.bbking.com/default.asp into the Go to URL box.
- Highlight the word Musicians.
- Go to Objects>Hyperlink Text
- Click Add Link
- Click Actions (choose Go to URL)
- Paste the URL into the Go to URL box.

3. Hyperlink to Another Card in the Same Stack |
Now, hyperlink the bolded words to the specified card within this stack.
Link the bolded words to the specified card. |
| Each time you highlight the specified word, Authors, Actors, and Athletes, you will follow this procedure: |
- Hughlight the bolded word
- Go to Objects>Hyperlink Text
- Click Add Link
- Click Actions
- Under Places to Go--choose Another card
- Use the forward or back arrows to find the specified card.

| On this card, you will link the highlighted word to the specified card. |
1. Link AUTHORS to card 5
2. Link ACTORS to card 6
3. Link ATHLETES to card 7 |

When you have found the correct card to link to, click OK.
Pick the transition you want to occur to go to the card. |

Then click OK. Finally, click DONE on the Actions box.

4. Hyperlink to Another Stack |
To hyperlink to another stack, you follow the same procedures of
HIghlighting the text, adding the link, and going to Actions where you select "Another Stack". |
Highlight the bolded text--Another Stack
Click on Add Links. The highlighted text will become italicized(until you add actions).
Click on Actions.
Under Places to Go, choose ANOTHER STACK .

Download this Sample Stack to your desktop or other location of your choice.
|

| Save the stack where it will be easy for you to browse to in order to link to that stack. |
 |
| OPTION: You can choose any stack that you have saved on your computer, such as one of your practice stacks, but the sample stack will have a button to go back to the practice stack for adding hyperlinks.You may save your file to your desktop or have a specific folder of stacks. |
After you select the sample stack (or stack of your choice), select a
transition.
Click OK on the transition box and DONE on the Actions box. |

Now you can test your hyperlinked text. Click on Another Stack, it should link to the stack you selected. If you used the sample stack, there will be a button that you can click to go back to this practice sesson for adding hyperlinks.

5. Hyperlink from a Graphic Object
You can also hyperlink from a graphic object (or a text object) |
Hyperlink the Mississippi Map
Right-click or double-click on the Mississippi Map graphic. |

Click on Actions.You can select any choice you would like to hyperlink the graphic to such as Another card, Another stack, or Go to URL.
For this practice session choose GO to URL.

| Procedure: |
| Copy this URL (Hold the Ctrl key and press the C key to copy) |
Select GO TO URL under "Things to Do". (Hold the Ctrl key and press the V key to paste the URL into the Go to URL box).
|
Click on the map of Mississippi, the hyperlink should go to the URL you put in the Go to URL box. Try it to see if it works.

You can also hyperlink to another card in the stack. Click on the map of Australia graphic.

| Select "Another card". Use the forward arrow to go to card 12. |

Be sure to save your stack to your practice stacks folder before you exit or close out the stack.
