Instructional Materials
| While working through this online tutorial, it is important to practice procedures and skills presented within the HyperStudio authoring program. If you have not done so already, you should download the HyperStudio software. You can do so from the Downloads Page. |
| Launch the HyperStudio software. Then follow these steps to make sure you know what ways you can begin using HyperStudio to start a new stack, open an existing stack, or access the Home stack to check out things like examples from teacher lessons or student projects, or more about HyperStudio features. You can review the video if needed for Starting a New Stack. |

Practice Instructions |
Directions:
1. Move the browser hand over each of the boxes. Notice which one says Start a New Stack, Open an Existing Stack, and Home Stack.
2. Click on the File menu at the top-left of the page. A list will drop down of things you can do from the File Menu. Notice that you can start a new stack or open an existing stack from here.
3. Decide which way you want to start a new stack, the TV box or the File menu. Click on Create a New Stack.
The Stack Size and Color Depth dialogue box will open up...where you need to select the available colors to work with and the card size. You will learn more about card size a little later.
| You will be asked to decide on the colors available to use. The options are using the basic 256 colors, true color, or high colors. Usually high colors is used, giving the most choices of colors to use. |
Then you must decide on the card size. The default or standard card size is a width of 512 and a height of 384. Depending on what the stack is for, such as a project, presentation, lesson, or quiz, the size of the stack can be made smaller or larger by adjusting the width and height of the cards in the stack.
Click ok when you have set your card size |
| If you wanted to redo the size of the card, you can also click on MOVE>BACK and pick New Card again, then the dialogue box giving you the option to set the card size will re-appear, allowing you to change the dimensions larger or smaller. Remember, when you first launch the software, the size of the card you see is the standard card size of 512 x 384. This size is usually used unless you need the card smaller or larger for specific reasons. |
REVIEW:
Remember what to do?
- Click on Start a New Stack using one of these two choices.
| |
Then you need to set the colors (I recommend just letting it stay on high colors to get the most available colors) and the card size.
The standard card size of 512 x 384 is good for most stacks. The purpose for the stack may can determine if a larger card size is needed. |
