Using the Detachable Menus

Two of the Menu titles on the Menu Bar are TOOLS and COLORS. These two menusare detachable from the main menu toolbar. You can "drag" or "tear away" these two menus or palettes by using the drag-n-drop action. Point and click and drag on the menu title (Tools & Colors) holding your finger down on the left-hand mouse button, releasing your finger off the mouse button when you have positioned it where you want it on the desktop.
It is recommended to get use to tearing away or detaching the tools and/or colors palettes as a part of your routine when you open up a stack to work on it or start a new stack. This will make working on the stack easier because all you have to do is click on the tool or color you need instead of having to go the menu title every time you need to change a tool. To work on a card, you will have to go back and forth or toggle from the browse tool to the selection tool.
The Tools Menu provides three categories of tools to help you create projects: editing tools, selection tools, and painting tools.

Selection tools

The selection tools are the Square Selector tool, the Circular Selector tool, and the Lasso tool. These tools are

on the third row of the Tools Palette. The Square Selector tool allows the selection of a rectangle area and the Circular Selector tool allows the selection of a circular area, both of which may be cut, copied, or cleared/deleted. The Lasso tool allows the selection of an irregular shape by tracing around the shape as if to

"cut it out", then it may be edited (cut, copy, delete).

Colors Menu

The Colors Menu ( or Colors Palette) is used in conjunction with the Tools Palette to choose the color or paint pattern that can be used for text or the background color for text objects (boxes) or card backgrounds. The Colors Menu has three sections: solid colors, paint patterns, and three painting tools being used corresponding to the color or pattern that is chosen for that tool. You will see the color selected beside the tool used. When you use the Text tool , the paint patterns will not be available.

When using the paint tools, HyperStudio allows you to reverse or "undo" the last paint action you took. Once you

click somewhere else, you cannot undo a previous paint action. Go to Edit on the Menu toolbar and click on Undo...

(Edit >Undo applies to the last action you did, whether painting, moving an object, etc.).
