Part 1: Creating the Stack

So you have decided upon a topic/subject area for your lesson. Keeping in mind the ability levels of those students that the lesson is intended, you can begin creating your stack.

Start a New Stack
Let's begin by opening HyperStudio and clicking on Create a New Stack on the TV boxes. If you already have HyperStudio open you can go to File> New stack.

Set stack dimensions based on how much room you will need for the content. The usual size for most stacks is 512x384. This is the default size that will be used if you do not select a different size stack. It is usually best to keep the Colors selection at High Colors. This will give you the most available colors to use while taking up the smallest amount of memory for your stack.

If you need to set your preferences, go to Edit>Preferences. Be sure to check "show card number.
Now that you have your stack started, you can add cards as you need them. Select a background color or import a ready-made background (under File>Import Background). You can create a solid background color by using the paint can in the tools palette and selecting a color from the colors palette.

Next we will add content for a specific type of lesson.
