Using GeoCities to Build Your Web Site

Lesson 3

Example: My First Class Web Page

This is an example of the home page I started for my class when I taught first grade. In

Project with USM and the surrounding school systems about using technology in the classroom, I decided to start a class web site to showcase my students writing and artwork.

We also worked together to make up the story and illustrated the pictures to put on our class web site..

I also put in a sound wave that plays a tune while you read the story. wav bar

Class events or special guests can also be exhibited.

Class Event

School Secretary, Mrs. Revies, reads to the class and then asks questions about the story.

You can also use your class site to for class or school announcements as well as assignments that are due for the week (or whatever specified time frame you would like).

You can visit my first web site for my class when I taught at Woodley Elementary in Hattiesburg, MS at the following address. I intended it to be a thing that I could add to each year as a way to showcase my students accomplishments, but when Direct Instruction came along, there was no time for creative pursuits. Be mindful that it has not been updated recently because I no longer teach there. The class web site can be used for so much that can help the teacher and the learning environment. It can be a way to communicate with the students, parents, turn in assignments, provide materials that can be used in individual or group projects that can be worked on after school hours.

If you would like to check out how the site looks on the web go to http://www.geocities.com/neva_b_odom_2000/
