Lesson 3

Putting in Graphics and Text Objects

In order to create a lesson with HyperStudio, you will need to be able to insert graphics, text boxes, and buttons.

To insert a graphic you have to go to Objects>Add a Graphic Object.

A dialogue box will appear where you can choose to get the graphic from a file or a scanner or video. If you want to choose from a graphic that is already made, choose from a Disk file

You can choose from where ever you might have an image saved. If from a scanner, you would choose the folder where you would save it to and select it from there. In the HyperStudio Media Library, you can choose from the Clip Art or Animation folders to get a graphic object.

Besides going to Object>Insert Graphic Object, you can also go to the Clip Art folder in HyperStudio’s Media Library, from File>Add Clip Art on the menu bar. That leads directly to the Clip Art folder.

After you choose the graphics you want it is time to add a text object (box) to the card to put the information for the lesson. Go to Objects>Add Text Object. When the text box appears, you must click on the object or anywhere on the card for the dialogue box to come up where you can name the text box, change the text color or background. Check the Draw scroll bar and Scrollable boxes if you need to put a lot of text in the text box. The student can scroll down to see the text or you can use a NBA (new button action, which we will discuss in another lesson) to make it scroll automatically. The text object (or button) must have a name for the NBA of Roll Credits to know which card to activate.

If you click on the Style button, you can change the size or alignment of the text, or choose the type or style of font (italic, bold, plain or underlined. Usually, the underlined style is used when text is a hyperlink to the Internet or another location.

Check the Draw frame box to put a border around the text object. This is how the text object will look with or without a frame.

To put text into the text box, you must choose the Text tool.

You will see a blinking cursor (as you do in a Word Document or on the computer screen) that tells you where the text will begin to be typed. When you have put in the text, you can always change the font style, type, size, color or alignment.

The next lesson will go into inserting buttons and giving them actions.
