As a project, I created a reading lesson using HyperStudio. This is an example of what you can create for your own class materials.

Learning to Read with HyperStudio

My audience is low functioning adults, but this can also be used with children of varying levels of ability. My literacy method that this software falls under is like the Freiren approach of associating the image with the word. Within the story, an feature called Blabbermouth is used to say each word of the story for those that may not know some of the words. The phrases are repeated as the boy meets a new friend.

The quiz has vocabulary words at the beginning along with the images that go with them. When you click on each picture, it will say what that picture is. Images are used in each question that has to be identified with the corresponding word that matches it. A bell will ding when the right picture is chosen and an alarm sound will indicate an incorrect choice. This quiz can be repeated as often as needed to learn the vocabulary.
